As part of their life science unit, first graders at Pines Elementary School had the exciting opportunity to hatch baby chicks right in their classrooms.
Each class received fertilized eggs, and over the course of 21 days, the first graders eagerly awaited the arrival of the chicks. During that time, the students studied the life cycle of a chicken, learned about characteristics of chickens and observed the inside of the eggs to learn how chickens develop before they hatch.
The first chicks began to hatch at the end of March, with 20 chicks making their debut this year.
