Dolce class

On Friday, January 24th, all of 1st grade at Pines Elementary celebrated their second  “Starbucks Day”. On Starbucks Day, students experience a classroom transformation of sorts. Reading time turns into a “Starbooks Cafe”, a play on Starbucks. The theme revolves around the love of reading. “The first grade teachers wanted to show the children how proud we are of all their hard work in reading”, said Mrs. Dolce about the experience.

They wore “Starbooks” caps and listened to coffee house music. Students enjoyed chocolate milk lattes and “cake pops” made from donut holes. While they enjoyed their cafe setting, students read their books and practiced their reading strategies. The teachers went all out for the experience. “I even wrote their names wrong on the cups like in a real Starbucks!”, said Ms. Scarito about the experience. The 1st Grade Teachers also wore green aprons and served the students!

The students participated in other various engaging activities. All of the activities reviewed current and past 1st grade skills. The students enjoyed an escape from the coffee house math game, practiced their sight words in shaving cream, and designed drink cups.

1st Grade had a blast celebrating Starbucks Day and are looking forward to having this event for years to come!
