Hauppauge Middle School hosted its annual Connections Day on April 11, an all day celebration dedicated to promoting connection, inclusion and acceptance among students.

The day kicked off with a schoolwide pancake breakfast, setting the tone for a day of fun and togetherness. During advisory periods, students watched “Out of My Mind”, a Disney Original movie about a sixth grade girl with cerebral palsy. The screening was followed by group discussions that encouraged empathy, understanding and thoughtful conversation.

Throughout the day, students participated in a variety of interactive activities. The gym was transformed into a hub for teamwork with relay races and group games, while the cafeteria became a lively dance party with a live DJ. During the festivities, students had the opportunity to sign the “A.I.R.” pledge, promising to accept, include and respect individuals of all abilities.

The day concluded with an inspiring assembly, featuring motivational speaker Brandon Lee White. He spoke to students about the power of perseverance, the importance of facing fears and the value of disconnecting from screens to build genuine, real-world connections. His message centered on setting meaningful goals and finding a strong personal “why”.

Connections Day stands as a powerful reminder of Hauppauge Middle School’s commitment to building a compassionate and inclusive school community, where every student feels seen and supported.
