Forest Brook Elementary recently wrapped up an exciting and inspiring College and Career Week, a special event designed to introduce students to a variety of career paths and offer them the opportunity to meet professionals from various fields. Thank you to our various speakers!

Our first guest was Mr. Kristofer Mansfield, an air traffic controller. He spoke to the students about the critical role air traffic controllers play in ensuring the safety and efficiency of air travel.

Mrs. Shannon Barnes, co-owner of the local general contracting business Nailing Your Expectations, spoke about their entrepreneurial journey and the responsibilities of running a business. She explained the ins and outs of the construction industry and how she works with clients to bring their home improvement projects to life.

Mrs. Jennifer Ficarra, manager of Apple Bank, shared her career experience and discussed what it takes to work in the banking industry. She emphasized the importance of customer service, financial literacy and problem-solving skills.

Mr. Dave Smith, a teacher, coach and certified athletic trainer, spoke to the students about his career in sports medicine and how he helps athletes prevent and recover from injuries. He explained the vital role of athletic trainers in sports teams and schools, offering firsthand knowledge of how they assess injuries and provide immediate care.

We were also fortunate to have Officer Slevin, Officer Laveglia and Officer O'Haire, our local police officers and school resource officers, speak to our students about careers in law enforcement. They discussed their responsibilities in keeping our community safe.

The students were also introduced to Mr. Christopher Blount, Ms. Emily Clackett and Ms. Madison Licalzi from the Central Islip-Hauppauge Volunteer Ambulance Corps. They shared insights about careers in emergency medical services and the crucial work of paramedics and EMTs in responding to medical emergencies.

Mr. Joshua Segal, a technology specialist and support expert, introduced our students to the world of technology. The students learned about the importance of tech skills in today’s world and how technology is integrated into our everyday life.

Detective Minichini spoke to Mrs. Arpino’s class about his role as a detective and community helper. Principal Caulin, Forest Brook school nurse, Nurse Felice, and our librarian, Mrs. Pecoraro also shared their roles as community helpers with students.
