On Saturday, November 23, 2024 the Hauppauge-Smithtown Girls Varsity Swim team won the New York State Public High School team championship at the Webster Aquatic Center in Rochester, NY.
This is Hauppauge-Smithtown’s 2nd Championship in 3 years. Last year they were NYS Finalists.
Hauppauge’s Mary Schroeder swam the breaststroke in Hauppauge-Smithtown’s Championship 200 yard Medley Relay winning with an All-American Consideration time of 1:45.01 to start the medal parade for the girls. Schroeder, a senior, also earned All-State honors with her 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:07.79.
Teammate Avery Wilcox, a sophomore, swam the 3rd leg of the 200-yard freestyle relay that also took 1st place and swam to an All-American Consideration time of 1:35.79 which is a new Suffolk County record. Wilcox also earned All-State honors with her swim in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:12.50.
7th grader Sylvia Bonn also earned All-State honors with Avery Wilcox in Hauppauge-Smithtown’s 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:44.6 in Friday’s preliminaries.
Senior Hailey Wilcox swam the freestyle leg of the 200-yard Medley Relay in Friday’s preliminaries putting the team into position to become state champions on Saturday.
Hauppauge-Smithtown scored 208 team points. Nassau’s Long Beach HS was 2nd with 199.
