Congratulations to the High School students who have been selected for the NYSCAME All-County and NYSSMA All-State festivals!
NYSCAME is a county music organization that offers students the ability to perform with students from other districts in annual All-County concert festivals throughout Suffolk County. Students are selected from nomination lists to perform in these annual concert festivals. The NYSCAME ensembles, which consist of 11th and 12th graders, rehearse for three days and perform a concert after the rehearsals.
This year, Gennady Borisov (trumpet) and Joel Mathew (oboe) were chosen for the symphonic band, Alexa Oliveto (soprano 1) was chosen for treble choir and Madison Forgione (alto 2), Evan Lombardi (tenor 2), and Jacob Solomon (bass 1) were chosen for mixed choir.
NYSSMA All-State is an honor festival for the top high school music students in New York State. All-State ensembles include bands, orchestras, choruses, and jazz ensembles. The All-State selection process is very competitive with over 7,000 students competing for 890 positions in the eight All-State ensembles. Students are selected based on their NYSSMA auditions from the previous school year. The NYSSMA rating scale for solos and ensembles ranges from level I (easiest) to level VI (hardest), and All-State soloists must perform literature from level VI.
The District is honored to have three students selected this year. Gennady Borisov (trumpet) was selected for the symphonic band, Joel Mathew (oboe) was selected as an alternate for the symphonic band, and Alexa Oliveto was selected for the mixed chorus.
