The English and Reading Department in the Hauppauge School District is dedicated to fostering a love for literature and improving literacy skills among students. Our mission is to develop students' abilities to think critically, read analytically, and communicate effectively. The curriculum is designed to cover a wide range of literary genres, including classic and contemporary works, ensuring students are exposed to diverse perspectives and voices. It emphasizes the development of reading comprehension, writing skills, and critical thinking. In addition, the department provides remedial classes and specialized programs to support students who need extra support in reading and writing.

Kristen Reingold, Ed.D., serves as the Director of the English and Reading Department in the Hauppauge School District. Dr. Reingold began her career in Hauppauge in 2001 and has served as an elementary teacher, elementary and secondary assistant principal, and elementary principal. With a strong background in literacy education and a passion for cultivating an appreciation for reading and writing among students, Dr. Reingold leads the department with a focus on innovative teaching strategies, comprehensive support services, and community engagement. Her dedication to professional development and commitment to academic excellence ensure that both students and teachers thrive under her leadership.
