High school students Jonah Belser, Gregory Nelson and Frank Poma achieved their own historic milestone when they were awarded 1st Place in the Senior Division Group Website at the New York State National History Day Competition. The theme this year was "Revolution, Reaction and Reform". The trio's winning project was entitled "The Japanese Automobile Revolution and the American Response".
Under the guidance of Mrs. Ellen Robbins, History Club Advisor, the students performed in-depth research on their topic, which was then presented on a website that they developed. Students from regions throughout New York State were represented in the competition. The Hauppauge team will be competing at the National Competition in June.
In the Junior Division, middle school students Aisha Mamoor and Samantha Rothman were first time competitors at the state level. Advised by their teacher Mr. Michael Florence, their group exhibit presented the revolution, reaction and reform brought about by the Bolshevik Revolution. They conducted extensive research which included the personal family history and Uzbekistan cultural history of the Mamoor family.
Congratulations to all these students for their hard work and success! The Board of Education, Superintendent Patricia Sullivan-Kriss and entire Hauppauge school community wish the best of luck to our winnning team at the National History Day Competition in June!!
